Hey look, a blog!
Yup, I, Annemarie have a blog now. It's got a swanky sidebar and social media buttons on the top. Feeling pretty fancy right now.
Anyway, I mostly made this so my parents won't be FaceTiming or emailing me daily saying "Tell me everything you did today!" or "What have you been eating? Do you have pictures?" So mom and dad, this is mostly for you, and I guess also for any other family or friends who are curious about what I'm doing in Paris!
That's my other reason for starting a blog; I actually have something exciting to talk about: going to Paris for part of the summer! I'll be taking a history class titled The Belle Epoque, which is an era in France that spans from 1870 (the end of the Franco-Prussian War and beginning of the French Third Republic) to 1914 (the beginning of WWI). The literal translation of Belle Epoque = Beautiful Era. After WWI, everyone left alive was so depressed by the atrocities of trench warfare and mourning their deceased family members, they longed for the good ol' days. The Belle Epoque brought the rise of light, transportation, and culture to the city, so I'd probably be depressed too after going from that period of innovation to the Great War. I took a class titled France Since 1871, and lemme tell you, it sometimes feels all downhill after the Belle Epoque.
If you're actually interested in this, there's a good Wikipedia page on it!
There will be lots of sightseeing both with the class and with friends, so expect plenty of pictures. I have no clue how many I'll post to my Instagram versus Facebook versus this blog, so I guess, mom and dad, if you want the full scoop, you'll have to look at all three. Sorry!
I leave tomorrow tonight, so if you want to contact me after that, you'll have to do so via social media and email (or maaayybeee FaceTime/Skype if I really like you).
I'll end with this cute photo of the last time I went to Paris ten years ago with my family! Too bad I won't be as adorable now in photographs as I was back then.
Au revoir Escondido, et bonjour Paris!
